I'm very sorry for your loss. I had never known what Jarod's Law was exactly about until this past January. We had a school dance and were told we couldn't help pu the tables up because we were too young. I was a little upset considering it was a dance I had helped to plan and run. Now that I understand why, I am glad that my friends mom wouldn't let me. I'm sorry about Jarod, but am glad my life was possibly saved. I notice that, if he were still alive today, he would be about 13. I'm currently 14. Thank you for caring enough about our safety to get this law put into action.

I was so pleased to see the sign erected yesterday at the new park in front of the Stone Ridge neighborhood named in Jarod's honor. My Jared was a pre-school classmate of his and my daughter played co-ed soccer with him. Jarod was the kid everyone noticed and I am very please that the city decided to honor his name in this way. His memory will live on and I will think of him every time I pass that sign.

I am so sorry for your loss. I work at an afterschool YMCA program and we have been told his story many times, and I wanted to put a name and face with him in my mind. He is an adorable boy. I have always hated these cafeteria tables, they are in no way safe for children to play near.

Hey Jarod! There were a whole bunch of people making pictures for your mural today. It makes me feel good to know that so many people love you and your family. If you could have been there, you would have had so much fun. But I find it hard to imagine you sitting at the table drawing pictures. I my mind's eye you would have been trying to get all the other kids to leave their tables and play! Am I right?

I have always thought you were someone special since I've met you. Now I have proof. Who would have thought that a simple Spanish assignment would enlighten another group of people to just how special that you and your family are. We never know the burdens and strengths that others have until their full stories are exposed to us. I just wanted your family to know that I am praying for all of you during this Christmas Holiday. Every year around this time I think about Jarod. I was working at Donavon primetime when this accident happened. I was with jacob until he was picked up by another family member. I felt for the whole family that night. Today, I read the school safety report for Incarnation School in Centerville. When I read the last paragraph regarding playground and cafeteria safety, I noticed "including the Jarod's Law compliance issues". I was curious about it and why it was created, so I searched information and read about Jarod's story...I will just say Thank You for making Incarnation school safe for my daughter, and all the other K-12 students in Ohio. This would not have been possible without you and your family. May God continue to work through you and with you.

I am a senior in high school. It is terribly tragic what has happened to your dear son. The grief you feel must be terrible. However, although the law that was passed was passed with good intentions, it is snowballing into something horrible. The regulations and item bans are becoming ridiculous. We aren't even allowed to use Elmer's glue anymore. I'm sorry about what happened to your son, but education is taking a generally unnecessary hit as a result of an accident.

I just learned of Jarod's Law. I have a son that is the same as Jarod when Jarod passed away. He also goes to a YMCA program before and after school. I was handed a paper this year and it said because of Jarod's Law. Because I didn't know of it I googled it and found your page. I am deeply sorry for your lose. I could not even imagine. I'm sure you get mail like this all of the time, but after visiting your Web site I just feel the need to express my sympathies to your family. Your son was an absolutely beautiful little boy, as your other children are. You must be so proud. I'm writing too to tell you I'm writing a series of news stories about our local schools health inspections that were done because of Jarod's law. I'm a reporter with the Times Recorder, it's a daily newspaper in Zanesville (Ohio). The stories are more about how the schools fared in the inspections, what needs fixed, etc., but as I started to research Jarod's law I found much more than what I was looking for. I had no idea the story behind the new inspection law. Jarod's story truly is a tragic, terrible one. But I believe because of your courage, hopefully, other children will be safe.

Jim, I think you're right, what you said about no one can ever know what your family went through/is going through, unless you experience it, but your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Our school lost a student a few months ago in a car wreck and it ripped a hole in all of us.

I'm a kindergarten teacher. My school uses the folding tables in our cafeteria. I will be working with another teacher in her room tomorrow, getting ready for the upcoming school year. The FIRST thing I will do when I arrive on campus tomorrow is go to the cafeteria and check those tables.

I can't even imagine what you are going through. I was looking at the Ohio Dept of Health website and kept seeing "Jarod's Law" on the initial page and decided to take a look. I have cried through the whole website. I wanted to thank you for your initiative to start an awareness and regulation to keep our children safe.

I am on the safety committee at Cincinnati Public Schools. Every meeting focuses a great deal on Jarod's Law. I heard the sad story of Jarod when it happened. I am so sorry for your loss. I wanted you to know your sons law is helping my daughter. She suffers from severe dust mite allergies and there is a part (section 7) of the law that states all toys must be sanitized weekly. We were having a problem with children bringing stuffed animals to school and one of the teachers pointed this law out. Thank you for making people aware and keeping our schools safe.

I just read your story. Our 9 yr. old son, Brian died on December 11,1985 in Spring, TX. at a boy scout Christmas party in the same way your precious son died. Brit went to her grief group tonight. On the long drive back we had an emotional talk about Bob and Jarod. I told her the story of how after Bob's memorial I went to my bathroom to take a shower and to cry alone. I told Brit - how when I looked around the shower there was a ladybug on the shower wall. last january i recieved a call at work that my 6 year old son Gabriel was being rushed to the hospital after a cafeteria table collapsed on him at school. I'm terribly sorry about your loss. Tears were falling as I looked thru and watched videos on your site. As I watched the video I felt the focus on the table wasn't the problem. I don't mean to sound insensitive. There are many dangers in life. The table had warnings on them. I feel the problem is, as with many in life, is people not paying attention to these warnings and keeping children safe. The children should not have been allowed to be in area of the upright tables. I know these tables, they were in my school as a child in the 70's and 80's. The janitor set them up before lunch, took them down after lunch and stored them in a designated area all in the absence of children. Again I know this sounds insensitive and I don't mean it to so I will get to my point. We can't make the world danger free. Are we going to get rid of school buses, pencils, water, swing sets (oh I forgot we have already gotten rid of those). We as adults need to pay attention and be responsible. The people that allowed the children to run freely around the tables are the ones at fault in my opinion.
